Some journeys begin with a destination. Mine began with a decision.
After years in corporate HR, I found myself in the middle of a workplace situation that, looking back, was the best thing that ever happened to me. A difficult manager. A reorganization that felt anything but random. And a growing realization that no matter how hard I worked or how much I cared, the environment I was in wasn’t going to change. So in 2018, I made the decision before the decision was made for me.
I walked away from corporate HR, from the politics, from the fluorescent lights……and I never looked back.
The Business Before the Move
Sweet Bean Travels didn’t start in Mexico. It started with a leap of faith in Philadelphia, a decision to trade the corporate ladder for something that actually lit me up: helping people experience the world in a deeper, more intentional way.
For the first few years, I built the business quietly and steadily. Then 2020 happened. And when the world finally exhaled and travel came roaring back, so did Sweet Bean. By 2022, everything shifted. Demand surged, the vision sharpened, and what had started as a passion project became a thriving boutique agency.
From Philly to Playa del Carmen — Then San Miguel
In September 2020, as the world was still figuring out what life after lockdown looked like, I made another bold move: I left Philadelphia for Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Sun, Caribbean coastline, and a slower rhythm of life was exactly what I needed.
Two years later, a house sit brought me to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. And in October 2022, I made it my permanent home.
San Miguel is the kind of place that gets under your skin. Cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, a sky that turns impossible shades of pink at golden hour. What I found here wasn’t just a beautiful city; it was a different relationship with time, with culture, with the art of slowing down enough to actually see where you are.
